Friends and Family of Laura Kwasira and Ann Maina who were both shot by a police officer at an entertainment joint in Nakuru have been lighting candles each day to mourn and show respect to the two, after dying in a shootout incident over a Sh13,000 bill.

As you enter the Vegas entertainment joint, posters seeking justice for the two have been pinned on the wall. In multiple manila charts they have written texts ‘Justice for our people. Cops should be stopped coming with firearms in the club, Justice ‘and another ‘ Justice for Ann and Laura’.

In addition, a picture of Ms Laura and Ann is also displayed at the place with three candles lit at all times to honour their memory.

Laura Kwasira who was shot and later succumbed to gunshot wounds while receiving treatment at the Nakuru Level Five hospital, was the owner of the club. She was shot in the back, with five entry points.

An autopsy conducted at the Nakuru Level Five mortuary revealed that she died due to severe bleeding.

In an interview with human rights defender working with IMLU David Kuria, at the Vegas club , he says for justice to be served for the two, there has to be a witness to testify when the case is brought before a judge.

“As human rights defenders, we are out to find justice for the two and highly condemn the actions of the officer which led to the loss of lives and others fighting for their lives in hospital,” he said.

Although business has resumed at the entertainment joints, one of the workers there revealed to Mtaa Wangu that business is picking up slowly.

“It is hard to restore the faith people had in us. Some are a bit skeptical about visiting us because of what happened here. We hope that things will pick up soon since we are in the festive season. We have already recorded our statements with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) all we seek is justice to be served for our friends,” they said.

Her father Dr. Josephat Kwasira, called on officers to conduct a thorough investigation for their kin to get justice saying that her dream was cut short as she was pursuing her Phd.

According to Dr. Kwasira the family is making burial arrangements to put to rest their first-born daughter on December 21.

The police officer, Nicholas Musau was arraigned at a Nakuru court on Thursday December 14 and police were granted 7 days to detain him to record statements from witnesses and conduct a mental assessment on the suspect.
