Abigael Irungu, an avid traveler turned entrepreneur, embarked on her entrepreneurial journey three years ago.

She had decided to make the tough decision of establishing a clothing store after deciding to leave her previous employment.

Earlier in her life, she had a stint as a casual laborer in a construction site. She also hawked smokies in town.

"It's said don't despise humble beginnings. The lessons I learned when doing the casual jobs instilled values that I have been able to use when running the business," she notes.

Abigael reveals that she began her business after pooling her savings and support from her parents amounting to Sh 150,000.

The knowledge she had acquired from her previous employment including sales, marketing, stock taking, and where to buy the stock within and outside Nakuru was very significant when she started her own business.

"My initial experience working in a clothing store proved critical, providing insights into market dynamics, financial management, effective communication, and staying up-to-date with the fashion trends," she reveals.

Navigating the challenges of running a business, Abigael emphasizes the importance of resilience and commitment, particularly as a young businesswoman facing skepticism from others.

Despite encountering misconceptions about her employer status, she has skillfully addressed them, occasionally assuming the role of an employee.

"When I started most people thought I was employed, some still ask to speak with my boss even after three years in the business which shows that society is yet to accept women as business owners especially when one is young," she says.

Having weathered the initial skepticism, the 27-year-old entrepreneur understands the significance of self-belief for women in business, encouraging them to avoid seeking approval through male figures.

She proudly mentions that over time women have demonstrated what it truly means to have a vision steered by passion, strength, and an unyielding commitment to making a difference by breaking age-old glass ceilings, introducing groundbreaking ideas, and carving out new pathways within the business sector.

Despite the stiff competition in the new clothes industry the mother of one remains dedicated to expanding her business with multiple outlets within Nakuru and launching her clothing line in the future.
