As a young adult at Maseno University, Elias Mwaura was intrigued by the world of technology.

Then pursuing a degree in Software engineering, Mwaura tinkered with some of the systems that he was learning in school, albeit to fill up his time.

It was during this casual pass time activity that Mwaura developed a software meant to assist start ups manage their businesses especially in the accounting front.

Unknown to him, this seemingly simple software would lay a foundation for Primesoft Solutions Limited company.

After graduating in 2007, Mr. Mwaura continued developing systems for businesses instead of pursuing conventional employment offers.

"With a capital of Sh 5,000, Primesoft Solutions Limited was registered and commenced operations without any employees or a physical office," Mwaura says with a smile on his face.

According, to Mr Mwaura, necessary software in business serves as an essential tool for businesses, offering an array of features designed to track revenue and expenditures.

"The finest software boasts of a comprehensive suite of reports, empowering businesses to conduct in-depth assessments of their financial well-being," he notes.

In addition, the software should feature user-friendly dashboards that deliver quick, at-a-glance insights into vital financial aspects, such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, historical sales data, and cash flow.

In 2015, Mr. Mwaura encountered a substantial setback when he lost Sh 4.5 million due to unpaid sub-contracts.

This incident prompted a strategic shift towards developing and selling their solutions, to the creation of Maliplus Integrated Software Suites.

The suites cater to industries like real estate, savings and credit, motor bazaar management, and supermarkets among others, and have proven instrumental in efficiently and effectively addressing clients' challenges as they arise.

Over the years, Mr. Mwaura's steadfast dedication has transformed the company from a humble establishment with him as the sole employee to a prominent software enterprise with branches in Nakuru and Nairobi, employing more than 20 individuals directly and indirectly.

"This has enabled us to serve organizations in the country and the neighbouring country Tanzania and we hope to expand further across the region," he said .

However, Mr. Mwaura remains concerned about the burden of over-taxation on technological solutions imposed by the government, hindering businesses from fully embracing automation.

He encourages young software engineers to embrace innovation and adapt to the dynamic technological landscape.

"Being innovative and staying ahead of the curve will enable you to excel in this ever-evolving field, setting you apart as an industry leader," he notes.

Regardless of the scale, whether small, medium, or large, accounting software proves invaluable for efficient tax management, ensuring precise estimation of tax liabilities and optimal cost savings among other aspects of running a business.
