Ticket Baze has been a game changer in the promotion and ticketing of events in Nakuru county.

The website was founded by three event organizers namely; Joseph Ngugi, Alex Mose and Ben Omwaka in 2022, after they experienced challenges in ticketing during events.

Having been in event organizing for nearly a decade since 2013, Ngugi and his partners developed a website that would allow people to purchase tickets online.

The three further outsourced experts from India to help them improve the features on the website at a cost of Sh 300,000.

“Before, we would record more attendees as compared to the tickets sold. The figures did not add up and that is when we decide to come up with the website,” he notes.

At first, Ngugi admits that the website was meant to solve their problem, but after engaging with other event planners from Nakuru, the three entrepreneurs realized that their colleagues were going through a similar problem as well.

“Majority of the event planners would source their tickets from Nairobi and use agents to help them sell their tickets. We saw this as a great opportunity to tap into that market,” he notes.

To have your event uploaded on Ticket Baze, one would need to register as an event organizer on the website and have an account to post their events.

Alternatively, one can contact Ticket Baze and have them upload the event details themselves.

So how can you purchase a ticket from Ticket Baze?

“Search Ticket Baze on your browser, then scroll through ‘featured events’ until you find the event you want to attend. Click on that title and select ‘get your tickets now’. You can then choose how many tickets you want and check out. You will get an M-Pesa prompt asking for your pin to finalize payment after which you get an E-ticket on the site which has a QR code,” Ngugi explains.

According to him, the three generate revenue by getting a 10 percent commission on each ticket sale. On a good month, they make an average of sh 30,000 on ticket sales and sh 100,000 in event promotions.

“Our clients also get event promotions from our team of marketers,” adds Omwaka.

He notes that since 2022, they have handled sales for 42 events.

The challenge, Ngugi says, is that people in Nakuru have taken longer to adopt online purchase of tickets.
