At a time when the digital space is overtaking physical business operations, many youths are opting for the digital route.

Simon Kariuki, 26, and Emmanuel Omondi, 23, are young entrepreneurs who make a living by running a website that offers various services from the comfort of their homes.

The duo came together in 2020 and founded Eagle Web, a company that runs online games, online writing, affiliate marketing and network marketing with a starting capital of Sh150,000.

"It took us eight months to materialise the conceptual idea of running a business online. It was full of technical challenges because it was something we didn't understand. But in 2021, we made it and we currently have employees working remotely across the country," Kariuki explains.

Mtaa Wangu visited the pair at their home in Kiti area, where they work.

Kariuki, a graduate in electronics and electrical engineering, notes that what prompted him to get into the online business was the little play he got from his job.

As for Omondi, he dropped out of Egerton University, where he was studying computer science, to build his brand, Eagle Web, instead of working for other people as he did while at school.

The two run five online writing accounts where they have close to 21 employees across the country.

"The online writing is what brings more revenue to the company in a month. In a good month, we make Sh300,000, which brings our profit margin to Sh80,000 per month," says Omondi.

We have also partnered with local retail shops such as Wajose and electronics shops in Baraka Plaza, among others, to supply customers with items purchased through our website.

Omondi added that their company was taking gaming to the next level and monetising it.

"Most of you play Candy Crush and other games for fun, but on the site you can play the game competitively and earn from it while having fun," he says.

The pair have recently expanded their clientele from Nakuru to other parts of the country.

They plan to create more jobs through their business and teach more people how to monetise the many opportunities in the digital space.
