At least 15 families from the Muslim community in Nakuru East have something to smile about after receiving a food donation from the County Commissioner's office in partnership with the Rani Ramchandani Foundation.

This is to support them during the month of Ramadan by providing them with food items to help them break their fast.

Suleiman Gathi says that the food donation he received today has ensured that he and his family will have dinner.

"It has become difficult to put food on the table. There have been cases where you are fasting and you have no food for Iftar or Daku, forcing you to go through the fasting period on an empty stomach. I am happy to be assured of a meal tonight. I will also share this blessing with every needy family in my area," said Suleiman Gathi.

Saida wanjiku Karanja, from Paul Machanga Estate, says she is also grateful for the food donation.

"We have flour, oil and other products. We are in a difficult economic time and it is a challenge to afford a decent meal. But today, the elderly women and men from different homes will go home with their baskets full, for which we are more than grateful," said Wanjiku.

Bondeni Area Chief, Ali Nur, notes that the food drive has benefited over 60 families during the month of Ramadhan, who have received food donations every Friday.

"This is a month of sharing and giving with open hearts. I am happy to see that our Christian brothers and sisters have consciously decided to stand by their Muslim brothers and sisters during the holy month of Ramadhan," says Ali Nur.

Nakuru Deputy County Commissioner Simiyu Were urged more stakeholders to come on board to support the initiative, noting that there is a large group of vulnerable Muslims who can benefit from stakeholders coming together to provide food and support.

"Breaking the fast on an empty stomach can be devastating. It is my appeal to stakeholders to join hands and set up shelters for these families," he said.
