Chandarana Foodplus has announced the closure of its Nakuru branch, located at the Golden Life Mall, effective March 31, 2025, after four years of operations.

A statement seen by Mtaa Wangu confirms that the store will cease operations on that date, with the location remaining closed from April 1, 2025.

The statement expresses gratitude to customers for their loyalty and support; "We sincerely appreciate your support and loyalty to Chandarana Foodplus at Nakuru Golden Life Mall. We regret to inform you that this branch will be closing, and our last day of operation will be March 31, 2025. From April 1, 2025, the store will no longer be open."

Further, the company thanks the Nakuru community for its trust, stating, "It has been our privilege to serve you, and we are truly grateful for the trust and support you have shown us. We deeply appreciate the Nakuru community for welcoming us and being part of our journey. Thank you for being a part of our Chandarana Foodplus family."

According to a source who is not authorized to speak to the media, the supermarket's management clashed with the building's landlord who went back on their tenant agreement.

"We were supposed to start paying rent when the building attains 70 percent occupancy. However, the landlord abruptly changed the terms. To us, that is not sustainable."

Mtaa Wangu could not immediately confirm why the supermarket chose to shut down.

However, since its inception, there were concerns of its position. The supermarket was on the side of traffic from Ngata and Sobea and not from town towards these areas.

Chandarana Foodplus serves as the anchor tenant at Golden Life Mall, the largest shopping center in Nakuru.

The mall, developed by the Egerton University Retirement Benefits Scheme, is located across from the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Imani Mall.

Its closure comes a month after Stagematt chap chap was shut and a clothes store took up teh space.

Nakuru County has become a notable hub for supermarket chains that have grown to be some of the country's most successful.

New entrants to the Nakuru market include Jamaa and Cleanshelf Supermarkets.

In addition, Naivas operates four stores in the CBD, while WoolMatt has two outlets in the area.
