Drama was witnessed at Nakuru South Cemetery on Thursday afternoon after locals blocked a truck carrying sludge, from dumping it at the cemetery.

Shockingly, the truck carrying sludge collected from somewhere within town is said to belong to a Nakuru MP.

In a span of minutes, locals mobilized themselves and even made a call to Bondeni Police Station.

This prompted the police to swing into action.

Attempts by the driver of the truck to run away from the 3.30pm incident were futile as he could not overcome the speed of the locals.

Speaking to Mtaa Wangu on condition of anonymity to avert being victimized, the locals wondered why any individual could think of bringing sludge all the way from Nakuru CBD to come and dump it in the cemetery.

According to them, this contravenes environmental policies especially in residential areas.

"It is wrong to come and dump sludge here. We have children in this area and this dirt is hazardous to them. We cannot allow this," stated one of the locals neighboring the cemetery.

At one particular point, there was confrontation between occupants of the truck and the police officers.

No sooner had the two parties reached an understanding to have the sludge taken elsewhere for dumping than enforcement officers from the County Government of Nakuru in their green number plate vehicle made their way to the cemetery.

One of the enforcement officers was heard stating, "We have to protect the dead and the living."

After consultation between the officers, they came to a conclusion and the truck was impounded and taken to Nakuru County enforcement office for further action.

Locals lauded the move saying the concerned individuals can now sort it out with the enforcement department.

According to them, the cemetery should be respected for it is here that the dead have a room to rest.
