Nakuru West residents have petitioned Cabinet Secretary for Internal Affairs Kithure Kindiki to provide Rhonda Police Station with a patrol vehicle to improve service delivery.

In their petition to the ministry, the residents, through the Community Policing Committee, complained of frustrations experienced by the security apparatus in carrying out their duties.

The administration of the service by police officers, they said, has been hampered by the lack of a vehicle to facilitate the movement of officers.

According to the committee, the station has never received a service vehicle since it was gazetted in 2020.

"The Community Policing Committee therefore calls on the Line Minister for Home Affairs, Prof Kindiki, to find a lasting solution as the issue at hand is good and needs your attention," reads part of the petition.

The committee attributed the rampant criminal activities to the lack of resources at the station, which is unable to provide its services effectively.

The petition, which was signed by officials of the committee led by Ambrose Orimba, pointed out that the area was badly infested by organised criminal gangs including Confirm, WaTZ, Mauki, Wafaranza among others.

The committee also pointed out that Rhonda has a high prevalence of cases of gender-based violence and that the unavailability of the vehicle makes it difficult for police officers to transport victims to hospitals and to prosecute perpetrators.

The petition, was copied to Sub County Police Commander Francis Wahome and the area MP Samuel Arama.

Mr Wahome, who spoke to Mtaa Wangu, said they have been waiting in vain for the government to provide them with a vehicle.

According to Mr Wahome, the government is yet to lease new vehicles for the new station.

"Since the station has been gazetted in 2020, the government is yet to lease new vehicles to be given to the new stations, we hope they will consider doing this as soon as possible to enable the delivery of services by the said stations," said Mr Wahopme.
