Have you ever been to a strip club? Then I am sure you have some interesting stories to tell because of the nature of the activities that usually take place.

Being a social butterfly myself, I decided to check out what Nakuru had to offer and I found myself at a popular club in town that offers pole dancing entertainment every Thursday night.

True to my curious nature, I am always keen to attend and watch the various people indulging in and enjoying pole dancing.

And although my attention was drawn to the women on the poles, who seem to have a flexibility that is beyond human, my curiosity was piqued by the number of couples in the club watching the pole dancers together.

What makes the whole thing even more interesting is that the couples cheer louder than anyone else and many of them even go up to the dancers to tip them.

Given the fact that Nakuru is considered to be a conservative town, I found this an interesting observation and this was my cue to chat to some of the couples and find out what makes them go against what is considered taboo for husbands and wives to enjoy together.

One of the revelers who spoke to me were the Wanyoike's, who revealed that they had been together for more than a decade.

"Although we are in our mid-thirties, we have been together for over 10 years. After all these years, it is natural to get bored and long to try new things. The new thing we both decided to do was to visit strip clubs and pole dancing bars to bring back the excitement in our relationship," says Mr Wanyoike with a hearty laugh.

When I ask if his wife gets jealous when he looks at other women, he tells me that she actually enjoys herself and is the one who cheers the most.

"Interestingly, my wife is the one who suggested we go to the strip clubs. And whatever she wants, she gets," he says.

Larry and Sally (not their real names) also share the same sentiments as the Wanyoike's.

They tell me that they go to the strip club so as to spice up their relationship.

"My husband and I like to think of ourselves as open-minded people. So when we go to the strip club, we are always on the lookout for a pretty girl to take home with us, if you know what I mean," says Sally.

After talking to the two couples, I retire to my seat to enjoy the rest of the pole dancing show, thinking to myself and realising, Nakuru people aren't as innocent as they seem.
