Nakuru-based gospel artist Anne Maina, has passed on today after a battle with cancer.

Mrs Maina succumbed to bone marrow cancer today as early as 7:00 am in Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after a courageous battle lasting just under a year.

The artist who has sung “Ti Kawaida”,”Ambarara Jehova”, “Waya ni Igiri” among other songs in her has left behind her husband and three kids.

While confirming her death, her husband, who sounded understandably shaken told Mtaa Wangu that he was not in a position to give an interview at the moment.

Mariam Wangui, her fellow artist and friend for a decade now says, “The death of my friend has caught me by surprise due to the unwavering faith she had that reassured everyone around her that she would finally emerge victorious.”

According to Ms Wangui, she received a call from her husband early in the morning of 7:00am, informing her that her friend had lost the battle to cancer.

Ms Wangui says she received the news with a heavy heart adding that she could hardly control the tears that welled up in her eyes.

Ms Wangui states, “Mrs Maina was receiving treatment at Nakuru nursing home where she stayed for two weeks, and was later referred to KNH last week but one where her soul has rested.”

Ms Wangui notes that despite the cruel twist of fate, the memory of her friend will be left with those whose lives she touched by her music and good deeds.

Gospel artists have taken to social media to mourn the death of Mrs Maina.
