When in university, we are often faced with important decisions that shape our future. Some students choose to focus on their studies, aiming for academic excellence, while others pursue their passions in various fields.

When I first joined Kabarak University, my goal was to earn a law degree, and for a while, I was committed to that path. However, in my third year, I discovered an unexpected opportunity; modelling.

Encouraged by my friends, who pointed out that I had the right look, body, and height for modelling, I decided to give it a shot.

A modelling agency had visited our campus looking for new talent, and I was fortunate enough to be selected.

This new venture brought both rewards and challenges. On one hand, I was exposed to experiences and opportunities I never imagined.

On the other hand, balancing modelling with my studies was tough. I had to make sure my academic performance didn’t suffer because I was busy with photoshoots or runway events. Failing an exam due to modelling was not something I could explain to my parents.

Despite the difficulties, I enjoyed teaching other students how to walk the runway and mentoring them for university pageantry events.

By my fourth year, I was no longer eligible to compete but was honoured to open the shows.

My modelling career even led to me becoming a representative for the Nakuru University Students' Caucus, advocating for student welfare in Nakuru.

However, modelling was time-consuming and emotionally demanding. With frequent castings, photoshoots, and the constant need to maintain a particular image, it sometimes felt overwhelming.

After graduation, my modelling career naturally faded as my focus shifted to other responsibilities, and I started my job at a law firm. I mean adulting was hitting hard

Yet, I look back on those two years as some of the most exciting times in my campus life since I got an opportunity to interact and network with people I wouldn't have imagined to have met.

The most valuable lesson I learned is the importance of having supportive friends. They pushed me to pursue new opportunities and realize my potential.

Sometimes, all it takes is for someone to believe in you for you to step outside your comfort zone and grow. Do not be afraid to take risks. It might lead you to a very exciting journey, and whether long or short, enjoy every minute of it.
