16-year-old Riddhi Shah understands the weight loss journey all too well.

In 2022, the teenager looked inward and decided to take extreme measures that led to the loss of 45kilograms in 9 months.

“It was not that I did not like my body. I just wanted to be healthy,” Shah says.

At the time, she was a model in the plus size category and had participated in Miss Melvin Jones in her school.

Shah was forced to go to the gym consistently as well as keep off cakes, sweets and other sugary foods that she had become accustomed to. This she says was not an easy thing.

“I had to sacrifice eating junk foods as well as juggle between school and the gym,” She adds.

Shah continues, “For me, achieving my ideal weight has always been my goal. I maintain a strict diet and go to the gym thrice a week.”

Surprisingly, Shah reveals that some models are hit with the frustration to keep fit that they get into hard drugs as they struggle to remain relevant in the modeling world.

According to the reigning Miss Peace Nakuru, other models fall victim to drug use. Marijuana, cocaine, and alcohol are some of the drugs that are abused to maintain the hourglass shape of some models and also to get them hyped while on the stage.

“The drugs make them feel full which in turn makes the models cut their food consumption. Ultimately this cuts the number of calories one would add,” says Shah.

Shah is on a sprint to participate in International pageants, like Miss Universe.

Currently, she is the Teen Miss Environment Kenya, 1st Princess Teen Miss Kenya 2022, Little Miss Popularity Nakuru County 2022, 1st Teen Princess Miss Peace Nakuru county 2022/2023, and the 2nd runner-up Teen Miss United World East Africa 2022.
