In Kivumbini Ward, Nakuru East Sub-county, there exists a musical group known as the Eastlando Music Group; a dynamic group, composed of six talented members who embarked on their journey in 2021.

Led by Kelvin Mwaura, the group includes other young talents including Kelvin Omondi, Charles Muhoro, Shadrack Lungonzo, Denzel Ochanji, and George Baraza.

Driven by a shared vision, these artists are not merely chasing melodies and rhythms, they're on a mission to reshape the perceptions that often overshadow low-income neighbourhoods.

With passion in their hearts, they've harnessed the power of music to shed light on the struggles and aspirations of the youth within their community.

In an exclusive conversation with Mtaa Wangu, the group unveiled their unwavering determination as they see music as a unifying force, bringing together the conflicting youth from their community.

Despite some juggling their education with music, Mwaura says they've been blessed with unwavering parental support on their musical journey.

Their path, however, is far from a stroll in the park as Mwaura notes that recording sessions come at a cost, demanding Sh 6,000 per session, an amount they often lack.

In their pursuit, they are forced to pool their savings to fund these recording sessions, facing financial hurdles but never giving up.

Eastlando Music Group proudly boasts of having five songs in their music collection, each a testament to their dedication.

A recent victory in the Talanta Mtaani talent search, organized by the Nakuru East Member of Parliament, David Gikaria, saw them taking home Sh 35,000 in cash and a fully-funded audio and recording deal.

"Our hope soared high after the win, but it has been met with silence. The promised recording deal remains a distant echo, leaving us confused as to whether we will get to do the video," Mwaura laments

He notes that they have made several calls to the leader but they are yet to receive any communication on the same, though they remain hopeful.

Omondi adds that their experience is a reminder of the struggles faced by many emerging artists, caught in the web of unfulfilled promises.

He also notes that most upcoming artists also lack guidance in financial management, marketing, and branding which has led sponsors to shy away from supporting these local talents.

Yet, amidst these challenges, the Eastlando Music Group remains hopeful as they persist with their journey, determined to illuminate the path for Nakuru's youth.
