Beulyn Schola, a Pre-Primary pupil (PP2) from Adorn Growland Schools in Ngata emerged the winner at the National drama and music festivals held in Mombasa on Monday 24th April, under the Early Childhood Development (ECD) solo verse category.

Schola was announced the winner on Tuesday 25th April and took the titles of overall winner on solo verse, most creative solo verse, the best solo verse in English.

She was presenting a dramatized poem about career choices and the influence of parents on their children's career paths.

The solo play is about a girl (Schola) who dreams of becoming a teacher because she admires her class teacher. However, a conflict arises because her mother wants her to follow the same career path as her, that of a doctor.

With the help of her teacher, she persuades her mother to allow her to become a teacher. The poem ends with her rejoicing at being able to live her dream after talking to her mother.

The play depicts real-life situations that children experience as they try to identify and follow the career path of their choice.

In a phone call interview with Schola’s mother, Mrs Susan Makale says Schola will now proceed to the drama and music festivals gala event at Shimo la Tewa Secondary School in Mombasa.

“My hope is for her to be selected among the team presenting at the gala and proceed to perform her piece to President William Ruto at state house,” says Mrs Makale
