“Wearing the Kenya jersey and stepping in the field to represent my country is a dream come true for me,” says Dennis Abukuse, a player from Menengai Oilers who recently joined Shujaa, Kenya’s national rugby team.

The 24-year-old joined Oiler’s academy in November 2019 under Coach Gibson Weru, and Coach Kennedy, who he commends for the great work and effort they have put in to position him as a top player.

In October last year, Abukuse made it to the Kenya sevens ‘Shujaa team’ to play in the HBSC world rugby seven Series.

Abukuse has played with Shujaa in the World Seven series in Hongkong, Sydney, Australia, Dubai, Cape Town, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Toulouse, and London.

When asked what he holds dear in his life, Abukuse notes that family is everything to him.

“Every time we are out of season or I am back in the country I go home and spend time with my family. I appreciate them a lot because they brought me up and made me who I am today,” he says.

Other than being a sportsman, Abukuse is currently a third-year student at Laikipia University, where he is pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Geography.
