At the Paris Diamond League, Faith Kipyegon once again flew the Kenyan flag high by breaking another world record in the 5000m.

Kipyegon became the first Kenyan woman to hold a world record in the 5000m. The Nakuru-born athlete smashed the previous record held by Letesenbet Gidey of Ethiopia. She finished the race in 14 minutes and 05:20 seconds.

Gidey's record was 14:06.62 set on 10 July 2020 in Valencia, Spain.

After her victory, Kipyegon was overwhelmed with emotion as she expressed her joy, having last run the race eight years ago.

"I am so happy and very emotional right now and I don't know what to say, if my body is healthy, anything is possible," said Faith Kipyegon.

Just last week, Kipyegon broke the 1500m world record with a remarkable time of three minutes and 49.11 seconds.

She beat the previous record of 3:50.07, set by Ethiopia's Genzebe Dibaba in Monaco in 2015.

Reflecting on her second world record, Kipyegon said, "I don't know what will come next, I still have to discuss it with my coach and management."

Kipyegon, who hails from Keringet, Kuresoi South Sub County, Nakuru County, is an Olympic and World champion as well as the Nakuru City Stanbic Marathon brand ambassador.

Her exceptional performance and dedication to her sport has earned her the prestigious Sports Personality of the Year Award (SOYA) as Sports Woman of the Year in both 2021 and 2022.

Kipyegon took a maternity break after winning gold in Rio before returning to claim silver in a national record time of 3:54:22.
