Day 6 of the Nakuball games took place yesterday at the Mount Kenya University (MKU) grounds. As always, there was a stacked line-up of games with high impact and well coordinated plays from many of the teams that came to play.

Although the games went well, there were a few notable faces missing from the action.
The most notable was the absence of the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVIST) team, who were affected by the strike at their institution.

But that did not stop fans and players from having a good time.

The match of the day pitted Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) against the National Youth Service (NYS) Ospreys.

It was clear from the outset that the defending champions would have the day, but the newcomers had an ace up their sleeve, scoring back-to-back baskets that left the champions stunned.

The second quarter was no different as the Ospreys dominated the game. JKUAT tried to fight back in the third quarter, but their fate was sealed.

The fourth quarter ended with both teams scoring 6 points and the Ospreys narrowly securing the win.

The game ended 34-36 in favour of the NYS Ospreys. Proving that they are a team to be taken seriously.

In other matches, Kabarak University Ladies lost to NYS Ladies 5-21, Nakuru Teachers Training College and MKU Men 21-40 in favour of MKU, Kabarak University MEN lost to Kenyatta University 34-53 and NYS Ladies beat MKU Ladies 28-05.

The topic of conversation among some of the players was the protests witnessed against the Finance Bill.

Titus Kibet aka "Chuom ya Bake" was at the forefront of the rejection of the punitive Finance Bill, saying there was a clause that was supposed to be amended that would adversely affect them.

"There was a clause about the amateur sports clubs like Nakuball that would make them subject to tax on ticketing and sponsorship. This would have a huge impact on the sponsorship aspect as it would scare away sponsors who would find it very difficult to keep up with the taxation and in turn it would kill these amateur sporting associations who rely on these sponsorships," he said.

This he says, would also affect them because these amateur sports associations do a very spectacular job of developing talent at grassroots level.
