The calm Sunday at Nakuru High school grounds was lit up by cheers and electrifying game play by ultimate Frisbee players who were in for the fifth National championship.

Often what is mostly perceived as ‘a plate’ by many, brought excitement to Nakuru residents who peeped through the school fence as they did not know much about the sport.

Njenga Wainaina says he was drawn to the grounds by loud cheers from the field as he was passing by.

" I was surprised to see a disc flying and people chasing it. I have only seen the disc in movies being used to train dogs. I did not know that this was a competitive sport," says Wainaina.

Eight teams participated in the tournament, including Kakamega wolves, Blackfish ultimate, KEMRI, Tropical Rangers, Cool Waters, First touch, Great Rift Tigers and Kafu.

In the competitive finals, Kakamega wolves thrashed KEMRI 13- 5 to seal their win.

Speaking after the match, Wolves head coach Moses Njatha says he is thrilled the team won the finals.

" The players were very motivated and I loved their game play today. This being our third win in the National championship, I would love to congratulate the players for making this happen," he says excited.

The team captain Evans Okech, on the other hand says " I attribute our success today to all the players for being spirited in the game and not losing hope at any point. It was tough but I am glad we joined hands to secure our win in the fifth National championship," he concludes.
