Having triumphed over Kakamega based Buffalos on match day one of the Kenya Rugby Super Series, the Menengai cream led Cheetahs' franchise camp has been a hive of activities getting things in shape to meet the bankers side Lions.

In an interview with Mtaa Wangu, Cheetahs' head coach Lawrence Buyachi notes that all the boys in camp are in good shape for their match day two.

" We have a pool of talent in camp. However, someone to look out for in this weekend's game is Quinto Ongo from Impala RFC. He was very consistent on his boot over last weekend's match and we expect to see more from him this weekend," he says.

Further mentioning, that he is very key for the Cheetahs' kicking game," Quinto will determine how this game goes." he says

Other than him, Buyachi notes that their man of the match against Buffalos’, Felix Okoth, is a man of strength to look out for in the coming games.

“We also have our under 20 boys in the squad and they have been showcasing good sportsmanship with the pair of the senior boys. Phillip Okeyo from Nakuru RFC and Alvin Khavoli from Oilers have been great team players in our franchise,” he adds

Okoth tells Mtaa Wangu, he did not expect to bag a recognition on the first match of the Super series, however, he was elated when that happened.

" The match against Buffalos' was my first full match played without an injury. I had been out of the pitch because of a hairline injury that kept me in and out of the field. Once I got a call up to the franchise my hunger for the game got me out there ready for the hunt. As we face Lions on the weekend, I hope to give a better performance than what I had last weekend,” says Okoth.

Okoth who had a call up in 2023 for the National team (7s) ,notes that his injury robbed him the chance to don the Kenya jersey.

“I am hopeful that by the end of the super series my long-awaited dream of representing my county on the pitch materializes. At the moment I am pouring my spirit in the game and giving my best at every chance I am given, whilst having fun on the pitch,” he concludes.

Rugby action now shifts to Nakuru as the four franchises battle it out at the Nakuru Athletic club on Saturday from 2 pm .
