Renowned rally driver and 2018 Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) Division One winner Eric Bengi roared to victory in the four-wheel drive turbo car category during the second round of the Kenya National Auto Cross Championship held in Maili Saba.

Bengi registered a clock time of 10.43.1 against his competitor Gideon Kimani who came in second with 11.44.2.

"We won the championship last year and we were here to defend it this year and to also enjoy ourselves. Nakuru has a very technical track which is quite different from what we are used to. This race is preparing us for the East African Classics in December,” said Bengi.

In a true depiction of the apple not falling far from the tree, Bengi’s sons also won in their respective categories.

Allan Bengi, the youngest driver on the track took the trophy home under the Pee Wee category whereas his brother Eann Bengi toppled his competitor Gitau Munene with over 5 minutes to settle for a win at 13.07.1.

Other drivers who won in different categories included Karamveer Ruprai under the junior 2WD non-turbo buggy, Amaan Ganatra on the 2WD non-turbo buggy, Brandon Nganga on the 2WD turbo buggy, Amman Ganatra on the 2WD non-turbo car and John Kidivane on the open category.

Another renowned driver who took part in the race was Caroline Gatimu, who competed in the 2WD non-turbo car together with her 18-year-old daughter Tinesha Gaitimu and came in on position three and four respectively.

The course clerk at the club, Anthony Githu said the turnout for both drivers and spectators was good.

He added that in two weeks, RVMS club will host the karting race, which will be the first round of the karting race competitions this year.
