Driver of lorry involved in early morning Sobea crash speaks

The early Tuesday morning accident in Sobea in Nakuru county along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway claimed two lives- a man and a two-year-old infant.
According to Nakuru County Police commander, the 14-seater classic shuttle was coming from Eldoret heading towards Nakuru general direction when it collided with an incoming lorry which was ferrying tomatoes.

He said that the injured were rushed to Nakuru level five hospital for treatment while bodies of the deceased were taken to Nakuru city mortuary.
Speaking after the incident, Christopher Koskei, the driver of the lorry says that he was on his way heading to Kakamega when a Nissan came onto his lane.

He says he immediately flashed his lights as a way of warning the traffic that was on his lane but the matatu was speeding and could not go back to his lane.
“When I realized that it was too late I immediately swerved off the road, but the driver of the Nissan also drove in my direction,” he said.
Koskei said he sustained minor injuries on his arm and leg but he was okay.
The government has already started the process of expanding the road and putting up barriers in a bid to try and curb the accidents, but help to the motorists should come sooner rather than later as the road continues to claim more and more lives.
