The Nomination of Mr Andrew Mukite Musangi by President William Ruto to take over as the Chairperson of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) board, is set to add to the number of advocates hailing from Nakuru county who have served in senior positions in the country.

Mr Musangi, an advocate of the High Court, is a well-known person in the streets of Nakuru county after practicing for many years in the region, before expanding his legal services to Nairobi city.

The University of Hull alumnus was admitted to the bar in 1995 and afterwards joined the Sheth and Wathigo Advocates in Nakuru.

He later formed his law firm Mukite Musangi and company advocates in 1998, as the managing partner, with a focus in commercial and Corporate practice.

His nomination is a major milestone for Nakuru which has been producing top legal professionals for senior positions in the country.

The county boasts of producing the second Chief Justice emeritus David Maraga under the new constitutional dispensation.

Mr Maraga started his legal career in Nakuru, where he practiced for 25 years, before joining the judiciary. He served as the high court judge at the Nakuru High court shortly before relocating to Nairobi.

Former MP assistant minister the late Mirugi Kariuki had also practiced in Nakuru at his law firm, Mirugi Kariuki and company advocates, before joining politics.

During former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term, Mr Lawrence Karanja was appointed to the position of Chief Administrative Secretary for industrialization.

According to Musangi’s colleagues, his nomination was long overdue.

Mr Daniel Kisila who practiced with him at the Sheth and Wathigo company advocates, said the nominations are proof that Nakuru can produce competent lawyers who can be entrusted with management duties at the highest level.

Mr Kisila described Mr Musangi as energetic, young and knowledgeable, thus equal to the task.

“This proves that Nakuru is able to produce advocates with the competency to serve in big senior positions nationally. Musangi is equal to the task ,” said Mr Kisila.

Mr Pascal Mbeche on his part noted that the nomination of Mr Musangi adds pride to the Nakuru legal fraternity, who can associate with him.

He described him as a brilliant lawyer who can be entrusted with big roles.

“This proves that you can still be successful from whatever area you are practicing from. I urge the young lawyers from this region to be ambitious as everything is possible,” said Mr Mbeche.

Mr Musangi has served in various positions including chairperson of the Board at the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority, Chairman of the Law Society of Kenya- Rift Valley Branch and Council member of the Nakuru Business Association.
