Residents of Ngata on the outskirts of Nakuru City are now a worried lot after a section of Tree Farm Road was rendered impassable owing to the heavy rainfall experienced in the area.

The road split at one section rendering it impassable.

The locals say the rough road that connects one side of Ngata to the main Nakuru-Eldoret Highway was rendered impassable on Sunday as the rains continue to cause havoc in various parts of Nakuru City.

Shockingly, the road is just one kilometre away from Governor Susan Kihika’s posh residence.

The area residents, led by Peter Rono, argued that the road was damaged by storm water due to the poor drainage.

Mr Rono, who frequents the road, says though it is a rough road, a proper drainage would have helped.

He called on the county administration to move with speed and ensure the road is carpeted and drainage done.

“This road is in poor condition and should be fixed to ensure locals do not suffer when it comes to the road network,” he says.

It will be noted that when Governor Kihika came into office after the August 9 2022 polls, she vowed to improve road infrastructure under a program dubbed ‘Imarisha Barabara’.

Critics argue this was a replica of what her predecessor Lee Kinyanjui had under a program dubbed ‘Boresha Barabara’.

However, County Roads Executive Engineer Michael Kamau says the flagship project will see the opening up of roads in areas that have never been accessed before.

According to Eng. Kamau, the department plans to add more funding in the 2023/2024 financial years.

Some of the wards that have benefited include Nessuit, Viwandani, Malewa West, Ol’karia, Menengai West and Lakeview Wards.
