Early Saturday morning, what ought to have been a time of music, dance and carefree fun at a popular entertainment spot in Nakuru turned chaotic, after a fracas unfolded involving former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala.
Mr Malala had made headlines on Thursday after he was arrested and later released, in a move allegedly attributed to his role as a scriptwriter for the controversial Butere girls play ‘Echoes of War’.
Sources present at the time reveal to Mtaa Wangu that the scuffle which happened at around 3am begun when Mr Malala entered the established and made his way to the VIP section.
As is custom when popular faces enter a club, the hype person mentioned that Mr Malala had entered the building. This was almost immediately followed by revellers chanting anti-government slogans, for about five minutes.
As this was going on, a group of men made their way into the joint, and walked straight to where Malala was seated causing commotion at the VIP area.
The group attempted to rough up Malala but were stopped by the bouncers and some of the people he had walked in with.
“The bouncers at the club immediately came in and diffused the situation. The unknown men were escorted outside by the bouncers and Malala, remained in the club,” says the anonymous source.
The club management then called the police who arrived promptly and brought order to the situation. The police managed to remove Malala from the club and he boarded their vehicle before being whisked to safety.
It was then discovered that when the men walked outside, they vandalised Malala’s vehicle. The vehicle was taken to Nakuru Central Police station for processing.
“This whole issue lasted for about 30 minutes.”
Questions now linger as to who this group of men was and how they knew the exact moment that Malala entered the club.
Had they been trailing him?
How were they able to identify Malala’s vehicle from the large parking lot?
Mtaa Wangu reached out to Nakuru East police commander Samson Andaje who confirmed that the incident happened, but refused to comment further on the matter.
