KRA nab 15,000 litres of ethanol in Mai Mahiu

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) yesterday impounded 15,000 litres of Ethanol at Mai Mahiu, Naivasha as it was being transported to Nairobi.
Speaking of the incident at the tax collector’s offices in Nakuru city, acting South Rift Regional Coordinator -Jonah Ogora - says the goods had been imported from Tanzania.
" 60 drums with 250 litres each of ethanol was intercepted while on transit towards Nairobi following an intelligence led operation. The ethanol had been concealed with maize cobs inside a lorry," says Mr Ogora.

Additionally, he notes that the state would have lost taxes valued at Sh.6.7 million from the goods being smuggled into the country.
Mr Ogora reveals that the lorry was left abandoned by the time their officers came in contact with it adding that the lorry's drivers had already fled the scene.
He urged Kenyans to avoid bringing goods into the country through malicious means as they end up losing a lot when presented in court.
The goods have since been stored at the KRA warehouse in Blankets area , Nakuru.
