After remaining in custody for seven days, the police officer who was involved in a deadly shooting incident at a Nakuru night club was finally arraigned before court.

The police were supposed to explain whether or not they were ready to charge Mr Nicholas Musyoka Musau, after the expiry of the investigations period that were granted by the court.

The suspect who is attached at the Nakuru central police station is said to have shot and killed two people at Nax Vegas pub and injured two others after a disagreement over a Sh 13,000 bill.

He arrived at 11 am at the Nakuru law courts on board the Police land cruiser from the Kaptembwo police station where he had been cooling his heels for the last one week.

Musau was the last to alight the cruiser among the suspects who had been brought to court alongside him.

Clad in blue jeans, brown open shoes and grey jacket, the officer with an above average height made sure to cover his face completely from the public.

He covered his head with a Maasai shuka on top of a hood. He also wore a mask that covered his entire lower face barely leaving a space for the eyes.

He was escorted to the waiting cells by the basement of the new court buildings.

This was two hours before he was escorted to the duty court at the children's registry section.

As he sat on the benches before the court could begin, Mr Musyoka kept making phone calls seemingly briefing someone on the progress of the case.

He was later informed that his case will be the first to be called.

As he stood on the dock, the suspect did not bother to uncover his face, making it difficult for the journalists to get a snippet of his face.

The court was however informed that the Directorate of Public Prosecutions had issued directions that the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) take over investigations.

IPOA made an application through the prosecution requesting to detain the suspect for 14 days to enable them carry out their investigation.

The police further requested to have the suspect transferred from the Kaptembwo Police station to Naivasha .

The Chief Inspector Sandra Subira who is the OCS Kaptembwo said the security of the officer was at risk, after receiving threats from the public.

“We have faced a number of challenges with the officer being held in our station including threats from angry members of the public who have threatened to storm the station. We request that he be transferred to another station preferably in Naivasha for the sake of his security,” said Ms Subira.

The court granted IPOA 14 days to conclude the probe as well as ordered that the suspect be transferred to Naivasha Central police station.
