Peter Kimondo Baragu, alias Prophet Peter K, was arrested on March 16 and held at the Nakuru Central Police Station.

The beloved pastor, known for his sermons on moral virtues and community values, was instead delivering an impromptu sermon to a far less receptive audience-the officers at the station.

Prophet K, 41, of the Christ Impact Church in Ruiru faces accusations of rape and indecent acts in a case reported to Nakuru police in May 2022.

The man who commanded his pulpit with charismatic flair, chatty and entertaining to his congregants, appeared subdued with his eyes downcast, avoiding the gaze of authorities and the media when cuffed alongside one James Kang’ethe (now a state witness).

While addressing the media, Deputy Sub-County Police Commander Nakuru East sub-county, Sheila Kegode, says the suspect will be arraigned in court on March 17.

“We received information through the media that a prophet had committed the offense of rape. We followed up on the matter and found in our records a report dating back to May 2022, where someone had reported it at the Central Police Station,” Sheila notes.

According to the police, the fallen prophet has been on the run for the last two years, changing his location and mobile number, making it difficult to trace him.

Another person arrested on March 15 by the name of Ezron Gachoka Njoroge will be charged alongside Peter with conspiracy for the same offense.

What started as murmurs online, followed by "sodomy confessions" from several young worshippers at his church, erupted into violent protests on March 2, when an angry mob demanding justice for the victims stormed the prophet’s church while condemning the allegations.

In response, the police launched a manhunt, and an arrest warrant for Peter K was issued the following day.

Peter K is expected to take plea at the Nakuru courts today.
