Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has said that the county government will pay the hospital bills of 10 Londiani crash victims currently at Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Kihika directed that all expenses incurred by the victims during their treatment be waived, County Health Executive Member Jacqueline Osoro made the announcement on behalf of the Governor when she visited the victims at the hospital.

To facilitate the rescue and transfer of the victims to the hospital, Nakuru County dispatched four ambulances.

The facility received a total of ten patients, including three females and seven males. Five patients sustained head injuries, while the others suffered fractures.

"Unfortunately, an unidentified male patient succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the hospital's intensive care unit," Jacqueline Osoro said.

Currently, only one patient with soft tissue injuries is still admitted at Molo Sub-county Hospital.

Osoro, assured that the facility is adequately prepared and able to receive more accident victims who need to be referred to the hospital.

"In addition to medical care, the patients will also receive counselling to help them cope with the traumatic experience before they leave the hospital," she said.

The horrific accident, which occurred on Friday night, claimed the lives of 52 people.

The accident occurred when a truck travelling from Nakuru to Kericho lost control and rammed into several matatus, private vehicles and motorcycles before landing in a ditch.

The truck also hit hawkers selling roasted maize, vegetables, cabbages and oranges on the roadside at the Muhoroni turn-off.

The truck's brakes reportedly failed as it descended a slope on the highway. According to eyewitnesses, the impact threw the vehicle off the road before landing in a ditch, and the truck then hit other cars on the road before overturning.
