Police in Nakuru are investigating the mysterious death of a hospital intern whose lifeless body was found by security guards outside the Margaret Kenyatta Mother and Baby wing.

Confirming the incident, County Health Executive Roselyne Mungai said the body was discovered in the trenches outside the hospital at around 7am on Saturday morning.

"The Nakuru County government regrets that upon examination, it was found that the deceased was identified as one of the medical interns who has been serving at the hospital since August 2023. The deceased did not have any external injuries. The deceased still had his mobile phone in his pocket when his body was found," Ms Mungai said in a press statement.

Nakuru West Sub County Police Commander Francis Wahome said they rushed to the scene as soon as they were alerted of the incident and managed to remove the body, which he said had no physical injuries.

According to Mr Wahome, the deceased had foam in his mouth.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have launched an investigation into the matter to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the male intern at Nakuru level five hospital.

Governor Susan Kihika and the Health CEC are among those who have sent their condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.

The body is currently at the hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.
