A storm is brewing at Nakuru County Assembly. At the center of it is Molo MCA Ngware Ng'ang'a, who also doubles as the Deputy Speaker of the County Assembly, now facing impeachment threats.

News of plans to impeach Ngware have been awash on social media platforms over the last few days with no known day of when the axe will fall.

During an interview with the MCA, he confirmed that he was aware of the plan to impeach him, currently being conjured by his counterparts at the Assembly.

According to him, his troubles started a week ago during the burial of the grandmother to Molo MP Kuria Kimani, where he made remarks on the Finance Bill 2025.

“During the funeral I took the opportunity to pass on my condolences to the family of my area MP Kuria Kimani. Additionally, before the speech, I had engaged with some of the locals who told me that once I take the stage I should address the recommended taxes in this year’s Finance Bill seeing as the Mp is also the Chairperson of the Finance and National Planning Committee. I did so in a very respectable manner,” Mr Ngware adds.

He says his remarks did not sit well with some of the national leaders who were in attendance at the burial.

At the moment, Ngware says he has been served with a show cause notice (a formal document issued by an employer or authority to an employee or subordinate asking them to explain or justify their behaviour or performance).

“Impeaching a Deputy Speaker is not an easy task, there is a threshold that needs to be met and there are processes to it. I am aware there are those who are being offered cash incentives so that they can facilitate my impeachment,” he says.

The Molo legislator also says he is willing and ready to take on those who are looking to impeach him adding that he is keen to retain his position.

“I also have a team behind me that is advising me and will see me through these difficult times. My work is to represent the interests of the people na lazima tuskize wananchi,” he says.

This comes in the wake of the battle of supremacy that was witnessed within the ranks of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party members in the House, when a battle for the leader of majority ensued. Things got noisy and messy when Alex Langat was pitted against William Mutai.

Keringet MCA William Mutai was confirmed as the new majority leader.

On his part, Nakuru resident Simon Ole Nasieku says the County Assembly should be focusing on the main challenges facing the county such as insecurity, service delivery, healthcare, among others and not looking to impeach the deputy speaker.

Governance expert Laban Omusindi also echoes the sentiments of Nasieku, saying that in addition to the impeachment drama being a misplaced priority, the individuals behind this scheme might think they are weakening Mr Ngware, but in real sense they are strengthening him in the eyes of the masses.
