The county government of Nakuru has issued an urgent 21-day notice for unclaimed bodies at the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.

The hospital reports that it currently has 27 bodies in its mortuary that have remained unclaimed for over the legally required 21-day period, adding that many of them have begun decomposing.

The hospital’s administration is asking families with missing loved ones to come forward for identification and guidance on the claim process.

Failure to do so will result in the bodies being buried in a mass grave at the Naivasha Public Cemetery (Longonot) after all necessary legal procedures are followed.

Through a list seen by Mtaa Wangu posted on the county government’s Facebook page, only nine deceased people are identifiable by name out of the list of 27, while the rest are listed as ‘unknown African males’.

The list also includes the dates they were admitted to the morgue and the area in which they were found, with some dating as far back as February 2023 and the latest being October 2024.

Families are advised to contact the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital directly for more information or to inquire about the identification process.
