The county government of Nakuru has issued a 21-day public notice to families and the general public to identify and collect 13 bodies that remain unclaimed at the Naivasha Sub county mortuary.

The bodies are said to have exceeded the legally allowed holding period at the Mortuary.

The notice dated November 12, which was released by the hospital’s medical superintendent indicates that the bodies have remained unclaimed beyond the mandatory 21 days, posing both operational and public health concerns.

The hospital has now invited next of kin, relatives, friends, or any persons with relevant information to visit the facility and identify or collect the bodies before the expiry of the notice period.

A review of the mortuary register shows that ten of the bodies belong to identified individuals, while three remain unidentified. Among the identified cases, the deceased include eight males and two females, admitted to the facility between March and July 2025.

They were brought in from various locations including Naivasha Main Prison, Maai Mahiu Health Centre, Naivasha Traffic, and different police stations across the sub-county.

The notice also highlights the presence of three unknown bodies which include two unknown male adults and one unidentified female torso.

The unknown male adults were brought in by patrol officers from Maai Mahiu Police Station and Naivasha Police Station, while the unidentified female was delivered by Naivasha Police.

Should no one come forward within the 21-day window, the hospital will be compelled to proceed with a mass burial at the Naivasha Public Cemetery in Longonot, once all legal protocols have been satisfied.

The county government is urging families with missing relatives to visit the facility promptly for assistance.
