The usually loud entertainment joint along Oginga Odinga road now stands deserted, with the stench of death floating within it.

The drums converted into outstanding table stands to drink from and the orderly arranged seats are now scattered all over the place.

Broken beer bottles on the ground, half full glass of drinks on the table remain scattered around as proof of the haste with which revellers left the club.

This was after a police officer fired his gun at workers at the drinking joint over a bill argument.

According to one pub owner who sought anonymity, they noted that they had seen the police officer in company of other individuals drinking together at around 10 pm.

“I left work as the officers were drinking together. It was only at around 1 pm that I had my phone ringing and I saw five missed calls from people at the club. Upon returning the call, I was told two employees had been rushed to hospital over a gun shoot out fracas at the club,” he says.

They note that they rushed to hospital only to find one of the waiters Ann Maina ,30 years, had already passed on.

According to an eyewitness serving at the club, "The officer pulled out his gun after he was requested to clear his bill and that’s when the drama ensued. The bouncer made his way there to try and contain the situation, but he was also shot."

He says one of the waiters came to their stand and asked him to rush him to hospital. Upon checking him, he had been shot on his chest.

The waiters say they are counting losses of unknown value as people left with unpaid bills, as they ran for their lives.

According to Nakuru County Police commander, Samuel Ndanyi, the police officer, Nicholas Musau was out on official duty and was in custody of a Jericho pistol. He reveals that the pistol had 15 rounds of ammunition. However, the recovered pistol only had nine rounds.

Asked on the motivation behind the brutal act of the officer, the police boss reveals that the officers attached to Central Police station picked a quarrel with the waitress over a Sh 13,000 bill.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the police officer had paid the bill in cash but the waiter insisted that the bill had not been cleared. That was when a confrontation ensued leading to the regrettable act,” the police boss stated.

Mr. Ndanyi says the officer was arrested an hour later after the incident and he is currently being held at the Kaptembwo police station as investigations continue.

Additionally, he notes that the officer will be charged in court for murder as soon as investigations are conclusive.

According to a police report, three people suffered gunshot wounds in the incident; Benjamin Kote, 27, has a gunshot wound on his left lower chest, Edwin Apungana 33 years with two gunshot wounds on the upper abdomen and Laura Kwasira ,26 years, with multiple gunshot wounds on the pelvis, abdomen and chest.
