A group of teachers under the Nakuru County Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have come up with free online lessons as a mitigation measure to cushion learners against loss of learning during closure of schools.

This follows President William Ruto’s directive that the reopening of schools be delayed until further notice, due to the raging floods being experienced in various parts of the country.

"This program was initiated by a group of teachers who are ICT champions. The aim is to keep students engaged during the time they will be at home," he says.

One of the teachers’ facilitating the program, Mr. Wenani Delvin says they started the program last year in January and felt the need to partner with the county and have it rolled out once an extension of the school holiday was announced.

" We have one link that we are using to teach six subjects. This is a voluntary venture by a group of teachers, therefore it is being offered for free," Delvin says.

The program offers classes for form one to form four students hoping to tackle one subject per day for a start.

Delvin adds, "Today (Monday) for example we kicked things off with Kiswahili. We are also looking to include the Junior Secondary Schools and are currently working on a timetable for their classes."

After registration, one will get a link to a WhatsApp group where you will be able to get a link to the meeting.

"We anticipate by the end of the week we shall be able to have two or three lessons per day," he concludes.
