A house help charged with the killing of his boss, former treasury official Tom Osinde, is alleged to have used his motor vehicle car to ferry Osinde’s dead body and stolen household items to his home in Kisii county

Detectives in Nakuru have indicated that Mr Julius Mogoi Ogao alias Julius Oino alias Julius Ombogo, upon killing his boss fled using his motor vehicle make Toyota land Cruiser KBZ 900R, which he used to ferry items stolen from the house and also carry the dead body to be dumped in the river.

Among the items he stole include bedsheets, assorted electric appliances, utensils, maize seeds and fertilizer.

Mr Mogoi, 30, is accused of killing Mr Tom Fred Mokaya Osinde on the night of June 17 and 18 at his Ngata farm in Rongai sub county.

The decomposing body of the former Treasury official was recovered from River Kuja in Migori County where his family, led by Enock Nemwel Osinde, a brother of the deceased, positively identified it.

The suspect is said to have moved to different places within Kisii while driving the vehicle before dumping it at Enoosaen area in Transmara West within Narok county. He also vandalized the vehicle’s number plates and partially burnt the passenger seat in a bid to destroy evidence.

In his sworn affidavit before court, police constable Vincent Langat, a detective attached to the homicide department of the DCI stated that Mr Mogoi was the last person to be seen with Mr Osinde on June 17, before he went missing only for his body to discovered in River Kuja in Migori county.

According to the detective, the suspect killed his boss by slashing him on the head while in his house in Ngata.

“The investigating team found what appeared to be a blood splatter in the sitting room in the deceased’s house, an indication that he was murdered in his house. The evidence gathered against the accused person strongly ties him to the offence,” stated part of the documents before court.

Appearing before justice Heston Nyaga, Mr Mogoi denied the charges and sought to be released on bond.

However, the prosecution opposed the application claiming the suspect is a flight risk and likely to interfere with the witnesses adding that there is a threat to his life as the angry members of the public were baying for his blood.

State counsel Loice Murunga indicated that some of the witnesses were his close relatives including his mother who was found in possession of some of the stolen items, as well as his uncles who are fearing for their lives should the suspect be freed on bond.

Justice Nyaga directed that the prosecution present sworn affidavits from the relatives confirming that the release of the accused person will put their lives in danger.

The case will be mentioned on September 21.
