Karagita Public Beach, located eight kilometres from Naivasha town, is a popular weekend and holiday destination for many. It draws visitors from far and wide who come to unwind and have a great time.

One regular visitor, Faith Gathoni, an engineer, expressed her love for the place, praising everything from the delicious dishes to the thrilling boat rides.

She often visits the place when she visits her home town and also invites her friends for a fun drive from Nairobi to join her in the experience.

Gathoni also mentions that Karagita Public Beach offers a fantastic opportunity for group relaxation at an affordable price.

"They have bikes for those who enjoy trails, which can be rented by the hour. Additionally, the deep-fried fish and the chance to spot hippos during boat rides make the place even more appealing," says Gathoni.

Jeremiah Mutiso, the Chairman of Karagita Public Beach, emphasized that this beach provides an authentic and enjoyable experience without breaking the bank.

However, he notes that the beach's popularity is highly dependent on weekend and holiday visitors, making the jobs here seasonal.

"The beach is always busy during weekends and holidays, with activities like camel rides, boat rides, bike rentals, and even fun fairs for the kids," he says.

Despite its popularity, Mr Mutiso notes that there haven't been any permanent structures constructed there due to its location along riparian land.

Charles Kabiru and Beth Mwaura, who work at the beach, as a coxswain and fish seller respectively mentions that despite the presence of renowned hotels in the area, many visitors prefer to come to the public beach for its unique charm.

The beach caters to both locals and foreigners who sometimes come from the hotels around and still get to enjoy more.

They note that most activities start early in the morning and continue to evening when most activities cannot happen especially boat rides.

A boat ride costs an average of Sh 1,000, depending on the time of the ride. The fish costs from Sh 100 to Sh 2,500 depending on the type and size of fish.

It is worth noting that Karagita Public Beach is not the only public beach in Naivasha. Others include Kamere Public Beach, Banda Beach, and Kasarani Public Beach, all offering different experiences to visitors.
