Travelling along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway, especially at the Ngata stretch, you would often come across one or two trailers broken down on the side of the road.

Some of these trailers have been there for more than three or four days.

They are usually parked haphazardly posing a very serious hazard to motorists using the road.

This stretch of road, infamously known as a Black Spot, is very narrow. Due to this it sometimes makes it a challenge for motorists to navigate the road.

This, according to locals is perhaps the reason why accidents are quite popular at this spot.

According to Victor Osano, a colleague of the driver of the Nissan, one of the main reasons why the accident happened was because there was a truck parked on the side of the road, which made the road even narrower.

"One of the reasons why this accident happened today is because there was a vehicle that was on the side of the road and therefore in trying to navigate their way past the vehicle the accident happened," he said.

Often you will find vehicles that have broken down on the side of the road, which is a challenge especially for those travelling at night. At the moment, with the rain, visibility is not very good to some extent.

Mr Osano hopes the government will speed up the process of upgrading the Ngata section.

The county commander, Samuel Ndanyi, confirmed that seven people had died in the early morning accident.

"I would like to urge all road users to be very careful while using the road. The Ngata stretch has been marked as a black spot and therefore they should be extra cautious on that road," Mr Ndanyi said.
