Content creation might seem as easy as owning a smart phone and pointing the camera to yourself, but this according to a section of Nakuru youths is not the case.

Location, time and the subject matters a lot in such instances and that is why to get the perfect photo or video you will find most of them out on the weekend when there is less human and vehicle traffic.

When the rest of the formal job workers rests, for content creators it is time for them to get out their gear and get to work.

Areas like Milimani, Nyayo gardens and Tower One building have become favourite spots where young individuals like Joakim Onguta, Joseph Otieno, Joe Kinuthia, Sandra Were, and Ruth Jazmine usually come together to create content, by recording music for their social media platforms that supports upcoming artists in Nakuru.

Onguta, explains that Sundays offer a convenient escape from being hassled by city askaris or Kanjos as they are popularly referred to.

"Of late, the county government haven't been on our necks as before. Before, they would ask us for licenses and permits in order to allow us to carry out our activities. This allows us as creators to channel our work without unnecessary hindrances,” Onguta said.

According to him Tower One, Milimani and Nyayo Gardens capture the beauty of Nakuru city’s picturesque spaces, while also providing a central spot where the few people passing by can get a preview of what they are doing.

Biko, a photographer based in Nakuru, reveals highlights the safety aspect of working on a weekend, explaining that the absence of the usual weekday hustle and bustle makes it easier to capture stunning photographs.

"On normal weekdays, the streets are teeming with people and traffic, which can be unsafe for both customers and photographers. Sundays offer a reprieve from this chaos,” Biko said.

"Most people are available on weekends, and many of them have just come from church. This creates a favorable environment to engage with them and showcase our work. The relaxed atmosphere and leisurely pace of the day make it an ideal time for these artists to attract new clients and expand their networks.” Says Biko.

Nakuru's young content creators and photographers are not merely seizing weekends as a day of relief but also capitalizing on the favourable circumstances the day offers.
