Whether it is for the love of the sport, the thrill of watching cars move at lightning speed or just to enjoy the ambiance and make merry the World Rally Championships (WRC) attracts people from all walks of life.

The two towns of Nakuru and Naivasha are usually transformed into beehives of activities with fun and hyped scenes always guaranteed. However, what may stress you out is finding a place to stay.

And with only one week left to the event we know the list of options continues to grow smaller by the day.

Other than hotels, Mtaa Wangu looks into a few alternative accommodations you could try out and have a thrilling experience at the WRC.

Air BnB / Hostels.

They are the most common alternatives to hotels because they are more affordable and come with packages such as sharing for a group and options to prepare meals for yourselves making your stay adventurous and less expensive. Hostels can be closely associated with Air BnB, the only difference here is you book a bed in a social space, rather than an entire apartment. Most hostel options are available in Naivasha. If you do not mind sharing your space with stranger’s hostels can be a good option.

Homestay.

While this may be an unfamiliar concept to many, homestay is a form of accommodation where a family hosts you at their home. In exchange, you pay them for their hospitality. Homestay options can be booked through social websites. You could check out homestays available around Naivasha and Elementaita.

Camping.

The experience of glam camping may not materialize in this setup. However, pitching summer tents in the wild and enjoying your space with friends would be nice. June being a dry season fits well with camping at the WRC surroundings. If you have access to a camper’s vans, you can have that as an option for your evening rest after a great day of action at the rallying grounds. This will enable you have less worries of hustling for accommodation and using fuel to move around from one place to another.

Sleeping in or outside your car.

When all options are exhausted yet you have your own car, then you have to work with what you have. For the daredevils especially those in a secure camp, you may carry your own sleeping bags and place them under your car and have a good night’s sleep.
