Emotions ran high as quintuplets who passed on a day after they were born were buried on Friday.

The five babies who were placed in one small coffin were buried in one grave at the Nakuru South public cemetery.

What had come as joy and celebrations for the young couple on January 31 turned into sudden grief and mourning less than 24 hours later when the doctors at the hospital confirmed their passing on.

Families and friends thronged the Nakuru county teaching and referral hospital for a brief viewing of the bodies before they were ferried to the burial site.

However, both the mother Margaret Wairimu and father Simon Ndung’u were not present during this session.

Preceding the burial was a short service which was filled with emotional speeches from the family representatives and neighbors.

The father who turned up at the burial site followed the proceedings from the sidelines inside the vehicle.

As the coffin was being lowered down the grave, Mr Ndung'u fought to keep himself together and put a brave face for his family.

But it was not long before he broke down and had to be supported back to the vehicle.

Speaking on behalf of the family Daniel Ng'ang'a, the mother's uncle fought back tears as he explained the joy that the birth of the quintuplets had brought to the family adding that they were yet to come to terms with the loss.

He explained that it was the first occurrence to the family and had become very proud to get a new status as the grandfather to the five.

" Even though they have gone it does not change the fact that I happened to be one. They did not know me but it is a fact that I will always cherish to know that my niece gave me a big title," said Mr Ng'ang'a.

In solidarity was the members of the 2NK sacco fraternity who turned up in numbers to support their colleague.
