Business was disrupted in Nakuru along several streets within the city, after a warrant of arrest was issued by a Nakuru court in the morning, towards Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago.

The senator was expected to arrive in court alongside two other officials who were implicated in the Sh 1.1 billion, Canada and Finland scholarship saga.

He was expected to either present himself at the DCI Rift Valley Region headquarters or avail himself at court.

Following this, journalists set camp at the DCI offices waiting for his arrival.

Anticipation grew bigger as the Senator took long to arrive in Nakuru, hours after the issuance of the warrant for his arrest.

Journalists had to juggle between the court and DCI offices, as there was no clear information on where he would land first.

There was an unusual heavy police presence along Moi and court roads, a clear indicator that the law enforcers were anticipating a scuffle with the arrival of the senator.

Dozens of plain-clothed officers were deployed, and most of them could be seen coordinating with armed police patrolling the court area.

Patrol cars also scouted around the court perimeter, as officers guarding the court were alert with each vehicle approaching all access points of the court being inspected.

Passengers on board were asked to reveal their identities, while more officers frisked what luggage was being ferried into court.

After a long wait, the senator surrendered himself at the DCI headquarters in the evening, where he was grilled for hours.

In a bizarre occurrence, DCI officers tried to deny entry to a journalist who wanted to cover the senator as he was being escorted out of the DCI premises. The officers seemed to be holding Senator Mandago in until the journalist cleared the area.

However, a persistent lot of journalists stood their ground, and shortly after, the senator and other former county officials were escorted from the DCI premises.

They would later be rushed by the motorcade to the central police station where they were booked in, awaiting to be presented in court on Thursday.
