Organs of the Five Babies Born at PGH Were Not Fully Developed; Doctor Says

The family of Simon Kinyanjui Ndung'u is moaning the death of their five babies who were born on the afternoon of January 31 2023.The children were born pre-term, at week 25 .

The news of the babies passing away was confirmed by family members at Margret Kenyatta Mother Baby wing.

Simon's sister, Monica Nyambura confirmed that the hospital informed them that two of the children passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023 in the morning and after that they received news around 1 pm confirming that the other three had passed away.

25-year-old, Margaret Wairimu was booked at the Nakuru Level 5 hospital, mother baby wing as an in-patient on January 27 ,2023 after doctors check up on her and noted she had a high risk pregnancy.

The babies passed away as they were being attended to at the specialized new born unit.

The family has since asked for assistance to help them get through this tough time. Mr. Joseph maina the uncle to Simon has called upon leaders to step in and help them.

"We thank God for the blessing of those children. We do not blame anyone for how things have turned out but we seek the assistance of well-wisher to help this young family," said Maina.

In an interview with Dr. Aisha Maina on Wednesday, the medical Superintendent at PGH said the babies were born of low weight and some of the organs were not fully developed.

She added that in cases of multi-pregnancy, there is a high risk making the chances of survival for this children lower than when a mother is carrying one child.
